Reading
Please look at our Reading at Home page for further resources. (tab at the top of this page)
The children will become improved readers through our reading sessions where they will read books from The Monster Phonics reading scheme.
1.Monster Phonics Reading Book.
This book has been carefully matched to your child's current reading level. Please listen to them read the book and remember to give them lots of praise - celebrate their success! If they can't read a word, read it to them. After they have finished talk about the book together. This book will have been read 3 times with their teacher in school that week. You will recieve the ebook version of the book which is accessible on a tablet, phone and laptop. This is free to access! The details of this book are written down each week in your child's reading log so you know which ebook to read with your child. Please click on the E-Books Parents Guide document on our Reading at Home page (the tab is at the very top left of this page), to sign up for the free ebooks to support your child at home.
2. Sharing Book.
In order to encourage your child to become a life long reader, it is important that they learn to read for pleasure. The sharing books are books which they have chosen for you to enjoy together. Please remember that you shouldn't expect your child to read these alone. Read it to or with them. Discuss the pictures, enjoy the story, predict what might happen next, use different voices for the characters, and explore the facts in a non fiction book. The main thing is that you have fun!
Please go to our Reading at Home page, to click on the Year 2 Common Exception Words for spelling and reading which Year 2 are expected to learn to both read and spell. We have also provided the Year 1 list of words too.
We really encourage the children to read regularly at home and would ask that you sign their Reading Logs when they do. We will reward the children for every 10, 20, 50 and 100 times their reading log is signed by you and they will achieve a coloured Reading Star Award!
Maths Homework
COMING SOON ...... > Listen out for information coming soon about Numbots homework.
Each week the children are given maths homework relating to the learning they are doing in class. We also provide online homework booklets for each unit of maths which are published by the White Rose Maths Scheme which we use in school. These can just be used as a point for discussion and do not have to be printed off and returned to school.
Please look at our Maths at Home page for further resources. (tab at the top of this page)
Uniform
Our school uniform is very important to us. . It helps to promote positive feelings of belonging to the school community and pride in our school. Everyone is expected to be in full school uniform everyday. Please click here to see further information.
PE
2HR and 2H will have their PE on a Friday afternoon. For this they will need a PE kit in school so that the children can get changed into their kit in school. This should comprise of a grey school t-shirt, black shorts and pumps or trainers. If you should wish then you can also include black jogging bottoms and an appropriate jumper for when the weather gets colder as they will still go outside unless there is heavy rain. Please remember that no jewellery can be worn during PE lessons.
Forest Schools
Every Monday afternoon the children will be having Forest Schools lessons with Ranger Dan which will be outdoors whatever the weather. They will need to have a warm waterproof coat, wellies, hat and gloves.
Snack
We will be providing your child with fruit as a snack each day, the fruit choices vary each day. Please also send a named water bottle into school with your child every day.
Dropping off and picking up
All children need to be dropped off at their classroom doors between 8:45 and 9:00am, when the registers will close. Children arriving after 9:00am will have to go to the office to sign in. At 3:15pm, class 2H leave through main door on the Key Stage 1 playground, whereas class 2HR will leave through their classroom door.
Other
Whilst we try our best to ensure each child comes home with their own belongings, could we politely ask that all items of clothing are clearly labelled to ensure they are returned to the correct child.
We hope your child will enjoy their time with us in Year 2, however if you have any queries then please do not hesitate to phone or email the office to discuss or to arrange a time to chat with your child’s teacher. Please ensure your contact details are up to date at the school office and notify them of any changes.
Thank you for your support.
