Nursery 2025 - 2026
A warm and enthusiastic welcome to Nursery!
Nursery is a place of growth, curiosity, and creativity, and we are committed to providing a stimulating and nurturing environment for your child's educational journey. We would like to share some key information to ensure that your child has the best start to their education.
Uniform Excellence: We believe that a smart appearance fosters a sense of pride in our children. We kindly request that children wear exemplary school uniforms. Our dress code consists of a white or grey polo shirt, and a purple school jumper. We appreciate that our younger children need support with toileting so they can choose to wear trousers/ joggers or leggings that help with this. Please ensure all uniform is labelled and a spare change of clothes are brought in, just in case of accident. Let’s dress for success!

Stay warm and dry: The children will have access to the outside area in all types of weather. Please ensure that they bring in a suitable coat to keep them warm and dry.
Stay Hydrated: We encourage children to bring their water bottles to school each day. These water bottles should go back home at the end of each day to be washed ahead of the next day. Your child will also receive a drink a milk during snack time.
Healthy Lunch: If your child is staying for lunch, please provide your child with a healthy packed lunch.
Attendance: If your child is not well or is not attending their session, please ring the school office to let us know.
We cannot wait to dive into a year filled with fun, growth, and unforgettable moments. We look forward to building a strong partnership with you, as parents and guardians, to ensure the best possible experience for your child.
Feel free to reach out to us with any questions or concerns you may have along the way. In the files below you will find our welcome pack. Let's make this a fantastic learning journey together!

Monster Phonics in Nursery
At our school, we use the Monster Phonics Nursery Scheme to support children in developing early communication, listening and pre-reading skills in a fun and engaging way.
Monster Phonics is a multi-sensory phonics programme that introduces children to the sounds we hear in spoken language through play, stories, songs and activities. It provides an excellent foundation for later reading and writing.
What is Phonics in Nursery?
In Nursery, phonics is not about formal reading or writing. Instead, it focuses on helping children to:
-
Tune into sounds around them
-
Enjoy rhymes and songs
-
Develop listening and attention skills
-
Begin to recognise early speech sounds
-
Build confidence with speaking and language
These skills are essential building blocks for future phonics learning in Reception and beyond.
How Monster Phonics Works
Monster Phonics uses colourful characters and sound cues to make learning memorable and exciting. In Nursery, children are introduced to:
-
Environmental sounds (e.g. animals, vehicles, everyday noises)
-
Rhythm and rhyme through stories and nursery rhymes
-
Oral blending and segmenting (hearing sounds in words)
-
Early sound awareness through games and playful interaction
Children learn best through hands-on experiences, so sessions are active, short and enjoyable.
Learning Through Play
Phonics learning is woven throughout the Nursery day. Children may explore sounds through:
-
Singing and action rhymes
-
Listening walks and sound games
-
Story time and repeated refrains
-
Role play and small world activities
-
Mark-making and early writing opportunities
This ensures phonics is meaningful and developmentally appropriate for young children.
Supporting Your Child at Home
Parents can help by:
-
Sharing stories every day
-
Singing nursery rhymes together
-
Talking about sounds you hear on walks
-
Playing simple listening games (e.g. “What can you hear?”)
The most important thing is to make language and sounds fun!
A Strong Start for Reading
Monster Phonics Nursery helps children develop the early skills they need to become confident communicators and future readers. By building a strong foundation in listening and sound awareness, we prepare children for successful phonics learning in Reception.
