A Warm Welcome To Year 3!

In Year 3, we have two classes:

Class 3W - Mr.Wrigley

Class 3H - Mr.Holdcroft

Mirs Lewis-Lord, Mrs.Taylor and Mrs.Marks (1:1) will also be supporting children in class during the mornings and undertaking interventions during the afternoon.

Dropping off and picking up

All children will need to enter school via the classroom doors (these can be accessed from the playground) between 8:45 and 9:00am. Pupils arriving after 9:00am will have to go to the office to sign in. It is vital for the pupils to arrive promptly as they will not want to miss out on the early dors activities and additional learming time.

At 3:15pm, all children will need to be collected from their classroom doors, with adults entering the school via the black gates at the front of school (the Pacific building). 

P.E.

Please ensure that they bring the correct P.E. kit into school, in keeping with the school uniform policy. All earrings are to be taken out on P.E. days. Please ensure any inhalers are in school with updated forms for the children who require them.

PE days for Autumn 1 are on a Tuesday and Friday. Please keep looking at the website as the year progresses as PE days may change. 

Forest School

Please can the children have wellies/spare footwear and a waterproof coat in school on a Wednesday to allow them to take part fully in Forest School. The children will be outside even in poor conditions.

Staying hydrated and snack

Please ensure that your child comes to school with a labelled water bottle so they can hydrate throughout the day. We ask that they do not bring in fizzy drinks or energy drinks. Energy drinks will be emptied and filled with water to ensure your child has a drink for the day.

Healthy snacks should be provided for morning break. Chocolate is not permitted.

Mobile phones, smart watches and toys

Mobile phones and smart watches are not allowed to be brought into school in Year 3. Please ensure any devices as such remain at home. Children may not bring toys of any sort into school and these items will be confiscated and returned at the end of the day.  This includes fidgets. 

Homework - Reading, Spelling and Times Tables Rockstars

This year we will be using The Reading Journey to document and celebrate the books and other reading materials that children experience. The Reading Journey is a digital reading journal that enables the children to build their own personal reading record over time. Children can add books they have read to their bookshelf, reflect on their reading, rate books and devlop a personal wishlist of books they would like to read. This means that we can look beyond simply recording what they have read and begin to understand what they enjoy, the choices they make and how reading develops over time. It also allows the children to recommend books to each other and discuss what they have liked and disliked. We would like the children to read at least three times a week at home. We strongly encourage the children to read widely and make choices about what they read. This might include novels, non-fiction books, comics, cartoons, poetry or magazines. 

We would really appreciate your support in encouraging your children to read at home and discuss with them what they are reading and why.

Your child has been issued with a password to access Times Tables Rockstars. Please encourage your child to log on and complete the challenges and games as often as possible. Teachers will be monitoring the children's engagement and fortnightly awards will be presented in Celebration Assembly.

Each week the children will be issued with ten spellings to learn on a Wednesday. The spellings will be sent home in a book. Please do not practise the spellings in the book but on a separate piece of paper. The children will be tested on their words the following Wednesday. Please can you ensure that the children bring the book into school every day as they may have time to also practise them in school.
