Year 6 2022 - 2023

Welcome to Year 6!

This year, Year 6 will be divided into three classes: Mr Vanstone, Miss Stokes, and Mr Jones. They will be assisted by Mrs Stockton, who will work closely with the children to help them achieve their academic goals. PE will take place on Thursdays, so please ensure your child comes to school dressed in appropriate PE attire.

Important Information

The school day begins promptly at 8:45 am, and early doors activities and interventions will be available for children who arrive early. The doors will close and the register will be taken at 9 am, so please ensure your child arrives to school on time. Any child arriving after 9 am but before 9:15 am will receive a late mark. Year 6 students can access their classes via the two doors on the pacific playground.

Break time will be at 10:30 am for 15 minutes, and lunchtime will be at 12:15 pm for 1 hour. If your child is having a school meal, please use Parent Pay to check the daily lunch menu and pay for their meal. If your child is bringing a packed lunch, please ensure that it is healthy and packed in a container that they can take to the hall.

The school day ends at 3:15 pm. Please ensure that your child knows where to meet you, either at the front gate or back gate. If your child is walking home alone, please inform the office and their class teacher.

PE

Year 6 will have PE on Thursday afternoons, so please ensure that your child comes to school dressed in their PE kit. The PE kit consists of a plain grey T-shirt or one with the school logo on it, as well as black shorts. Children should also wear suitable sports footwear.

Water Bottles

Please ensure that your child brings a full, named water bottle to school every day. Children will be able to access them throughout the day.

Reading at home

Reading journals will be checked on Fridays, so please ensure that your child brings their reading journal to school on those days. Children will receive certificates when they reach particular milestones with their reading. If your child reads at home 10, 20, 50, 100 or 150 times, they will get to visit Mrs Jones in her office and choose a book to take home and keep.

Your children will also visit the school library on a regular basis and will be able to choose and change their books accordingly. Please remind your child to return these books before their due date and to take care of them at home.

Mobile Phones

Children in Year 6 are allowed to bring their mobile phones to school. They must be turned off and handed to the class teacher at the start of the school day and will be returned before they go home. We ask that children do not turn on their mobile phones until they are outside the school gate. Parents must sign the consent form, which can be found on School Spider.
