Science Progression

Working Scientifically Skills and Progression

Working scientifically refers to the practical science that pupils take part in during their science lessons. At Underwood West Academy, we build on and develop these scientific skills, using a spiral approach, in every unit of work. The pupils then revisit and continue to develop these skills in each year group. Working scientifically focuses on five key areas:

  • Questioning

  • Investigating

  • Identifying and classifying

  • Recording and presenting

  • Drawing conclusions

The tables below show the progression of skills in these areas from EYFS to Year 6.
