World Book Day 2026
World Book Day 2026 – Celebrating Our Reading Identities 📚
World Book Day was a wonderful celebration of reading across our school, centred around the theme “Reading Identity – Who We Are as Readers.” Throughout the day, children explored how their relationship with books has grown and how reading helps them understand themselves and the world around them.
Our day was built around a simple but powerful message:
“Through reading: I belong, I am supported, I understand, and I can become.”
A Creative Start – Draw with Rob ✏️
Every class took part in a whole-school “Draw with Rob” session inspired by author and illustrator Rob Biddulph, our focus author for the day.
Children followed Rob’s drawing tutorials to create one of our school’s four reading animals. These animals represent the values that guide reading across the school:
Elephant – Emotional Intelligence
Supporting one another and growing in confidence as readers.Gorilla – Community
Building a strong reading community where every voice matters.Owl – Knowledge
Reading with curiosity and turning every page into new learning.Butterfly – Aspiration
Discovering who we can become through stories and imagination.
Sponsored Readathon Assembly 📖
During our special assemblies, teachers shared Rob Biddulph stories, aiming to read 10 books in 30 minutes!
The hall was filled with laughter, excitement, and a shared love of stories as children listened together and celebrated the joy of reading.
Our Sponsored Readathon will help raise money to buy new books for our school, ensuring that our library continues to grow with exciting titles for everyone.
Reading Together – Paired Reading for Pleasure
In the afternoon, classes came together for paired reading sessions, with older pupils sharing books with younger children.
These sessions were a highlight of the day. Children relaxed, shared stories, and enjoyed reading purely for pleasure while older pupils modelled what positive reading looks like.
Moments like these show how reading can bring our whole school community together.
Our Reading Journeys – The River of Reading 🌊
Children also reflected on their own reading journeys through our “River of Reading” activities.
✨ Thank you to all the staff, pupils, and families who helped make this World Book Day such a joyful celebration of reading!
